About Us
Rocket Around is:
A blogsite for sharing about adventure, fun, life in general, and the world by and with neurodiverse families and individuals. It’s cared for by our neurodiverse family, which includes Lee, Tom, Jeffrey, Jack, and Emma Lynch, plus our pug Rocket. Yes, that is where the name Rocket Around comes from.
We love traveling and adventure, but to be honest, it’s not the easiest thing for us. Combine high-functioning autism, epilepsy, ADHD, auditory processing disorder, and anxiety with the typical frustrations of traveling, and it can sometimes feel overwhelming. Despite Lee and Tom having a strong case of the travel bug, we went years holing up – not getting out on the road – because it seemed like too much.
But the intrigues of our big, wide world ultimately won out over those frustrations, and now we get on the road as often as we can.
As a family, we’ve journeyed to about a quarter of U.S. states, as well as parts of the UK and Europe, and we hope to, over time, visit everywhere else. We’ve also spent a lot of time adventuring both in and around Washington DC – which is close to home for us and along the U.S. Eastern seaboard.
We’ve seen the mind-opening impact that travel and adventure can have on our neurodiverse family members, but also know how challenging destinations and around-town adventures can be.
We’re glad to share what we’ve learned, but also want to hear the wisdom gained by other neurodiverse families so that we can all have more, amazing adventures and plain ol’ fun. Share your thoughts and experiences here about how you and your neurodiverse family Rocket Around.
Life moves fast, but when we Rocket Around, it’s more fun.
